Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a research based program used to support social-emotional wellness and behavior. PBIS is used to teach students positive social emotional behaviors as well as new skills to replace challenging behaviors. In Jump Start we focus on being safe, kind and responsible. We support students as they develop the skills to handle strong emotions, listen and follow directions, be kind to others, and solve problems independently. We use a variety of PBIS strategies including a friendship tree, Super Friend Awards, quiet corner (filled with penguins for “cooling down”), a solution center for problem solving work, practice and role playing for dealing with real life situations, and social-emotional literacy.
