Jump Start students participate in inquiry based classroom studies. Topics of study are based on student interest, and they change every year based on the interests of the current class. Studies are a great way for students to learn about things that are interesting and relevant to them in hands on and engaging ways. Previous topics of study have included insects, water, guinea pigs, buildings and sports and exercise. Studies are one of the most effective ways for children to learn science and social studies content while developing skills in literacy, math, movement and the arts. Studies support children’s ability to become totally engaged in topics and activities that interest them, and they challenge children to extend their thinking to higher levels. Our studies provide students an opportunity to gain information about things they are interested in through direct observation and experimentation as they link new ideas to what they already know and expand their minds.
